Befriending Conflict: Mindfulness of Violence

This course empowers victims of violence to cross the threshold of conflict through mindfulness practice, somatic practice, and self empowerment, while deterring the violence of the state from stemming into our social lives.

Drawing from Black anarchist positions, Black militants like Malcolm X, and Sarah Schulman’s book Conflict Is Not Abuse, we will face conflict avoidance in interpersonal relations through guided weekly meditations, group readings, and Q&A’s.

Mindfulness of Body for Trans Bodies

Through this workshop, we will develop wellness practices based on getting into the body, specifically for a body that is in flux, or has gone through flux, one that other people don't understand.

The practices learned in this workshop will encourage participants in healing dissociation from the body. This workshop asks participants to complete somatic practice, light gentle yoga postures, and seated meditations.

Decolonizing Your Creative Voice

Language carries violence. How do writers, coming from all professions, develop an ethic in language’s teaching, construction, and connotation?

Inspired by June Jordan’s essay “Nobody Mean More to Me than You and the Future Life of Willie Jordan”, this workshop focuses on reclaiming authenticity, moving away from white cultural ideas of legibility, and towards the power of Black English through in-class prompts, group readings of poetry and theory, and super fun group discussions.
